Meet Protein Candy, our Shine on Amazon grand prize winner!

We’re tickled pink to announce the grand prize winner of our second annual Shine on Amazon contest: Protein Candy, a better-for-you treat that combines an amazing chewy texture with delicious fruity candy flavours and high-quality protein from whey protein isolate. Protein Candy started with a simple idea: make it easy (and fun!) for people to hit their protein goals without compromising on taste or abandoning their love of candy. It’s available in four core mouthwatering flavours: Classic Fruit, Berry Punch, Sour Classic Fruit and Tropical Fruit, plus their newest release, Sour Berry Blast! “Our products are already in major Canadian retailers and now, thanks to Beacon, we’re excited to bring them to Amazon shoppers across North America,” says Morgan Kingdon, Director of Marketing at Protein Candy.

A hot brand surfs a tidal wave of demand for healthy snacks

“Protein Candy is a hot, innovative Canadian brand that is surfing a tidal wave of consumer demand for healthy protein snacks that support an active lifestyle,” says Beacon founder Don Thompson. “They are growing rapidly in retail and other channels across North America, so the timing is perfect to launch on Amazon.

“We are very happy to get them up and running as our Shine on Amazon grand prize winner for 2025, and we look forward to seeing this brand knock it out of the park, attracting and serving new customers on the world’s largest e-commerce platform.”

The grand prize package includes Beacon’s Amazon Power Up services (Account management + PPC ad management) to launch on Amazon Canada and Amazon U.S., plus six months of pay-per-click advertising and account management support.

“As a brand in the confectionery space, we’re focused on breaking down all barriers to purchase so we can be at arm’s reach for the consumer,” says Avyank Amar, senior brand manager for Protein Candy. “Amazon really helps us be literally within an arm’s reach because customers can pick up their phone and buy Protein Candy. The kind of access that Amazon gives is going to unlock a new avenue of growth for the brand.”

Amazon sets the table for omnichannel success

Protein Candy chose to rapidly launch on Amazon with a Fulfilled by Merchant (FBM) account, which sends orders to their Shopify store to be fulfilled by third-party logistics partners in Canada and the U.S.

The Beacon team provided market analysis & forecasting; keyword research, analysis and recommendations; and creation of the product pages, including listing copy. The Protein Candy team provided all brand and product details, as well as brand assets, including images and graphic design for their storefronts.

“Initially, Amazon will serve as a marketing channel for Protein Candy,” Don notes. “When people discover the brand in store, it’s natural for them to check them out online as well. Finding Protein Candy on Amazon and seeing good reviews can seal the sale.”

Next, the brand is moving to a Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) account.

This will increase conversion rates and profitability for the brand, reducing shipping costs and giving customers 2-day Prime shipping.

“Switching to FBA is game-changing for a brand,” says Don.”We typically see at least a 30% increase in sales volume.”

The timing is perfect for Protein Candy to launch on Amazon. People want to eat healthier while getting the same enjoyment from a snack. There’s a lot of potential for strong growth in the years to come.

All systems go for smooth sailing ahead

Beacon brand manager Dajana Pavlovic is ensuring smooth sailing for Protein Candy on Amazon, from navigating the technical complexities necessary to launch to optimizing the account for success on an ongoing basis. This includes:

  • satisfying Amazon’s policies for regulatory compliance in Canada related to the Monk fruit juice concentrate ingredient in the product (a common issue for many brands)
  • merging product listings for Canada and the U.S. to allow reviews to flow across both marketplaces, and
  • providing advice on how to address and prevent future problems with resellers on the platform.

“2025 has been an incredible year of growth for Protein Candy in both e-commerce and brick-and-mortar retail, and having a team that we can trust for Amazon allows us to continue to focus on that growth across the board and keep everything moving,” Morgan says.
