Protecting your brand on Amazon

Why CPG brands lose control of the Amazon Buy Box – and how to take it back

If you’re a CPG brand, Amazon isn’t just a sales and marketing channel.

It’s central to your brand reputation.

When a new customer sees your product in a retail store or searches your brand name on Amazon, they’re looking to verify price expectations, and assess the credibility of your brand and the experience attached to your products.

The same when you pitch your brand to a retailer or distributor. Buyers check Amazon before writing that PO.

The Buy Box is part of this equation:

When someone lands on your product detail page, the Buy Box determines:

  • Who is seen as “the seller”
  • What price is perceived as “normal”
  • What fulfillment experience they expect

But when you lose control of your Buy Box, you lose control of your brand narrative at the key conversion point.

The silent Buy Box (and brand!) killer: Unauthorized resellers

Here’s a real scenario we see all the time.

A brand sells to a distributor. That distributor sells into Amazon as a Vendor. Or they sell to other, typically unauthorized resellers, who then list your products on Amazon.

Suddenly the reviews tank:

“It tastes stale.”
“The best-before date was January — I received it in November.”
“Disgusting. Would never buy again.”

The brand panics — they have a good product, so what is going wrong?

A little digging reveals that these problems don’t originate with the brand itself: a third-party reseller bought inventory off the open market, stored it improperly and shipped it late.

And here’s the key thing: Amazon doesn’t automatically distinguish between “your brand” and “someone hijacking your listing”.

Your product just suddenly looks terrible — not just to shoppers, but to retailers who are researching whether they should carry your line.

A buyer doesn’t care where the problem came from.

They see 2.6 stars and move on.

Introducing *Pulse* brand protection for CPG sellers on Amazon

Pulse is Beacon Commerce’s new brand protection service built specifically to monitor and ensure the health of your brand reputation, pricing and customer experience on the Amazon platform, including preventing reseller chaos at the Buy Box.

Think of it like a bike lock for your brand.

We can’t stop every thief forever (Amazon makes that impossible) but when your bike is locked, resellers move on to the next unprotected brand.

With Pulse, we monitor for and prevent damage to your brand before it becomes visible.

The Pulse brand protection advantage

1. Regain control of your brand position

Your brand should own its own search results on Amazon.

Beacon’s Pulse service includes branded PPC ad management, so when someone searches your name, your product shows up at the top of search results — not someone else’s listing or a hijacker ad.

You stop paying the price for distributor indifference and reseller noise.

2. Protect your pricing & brand equity

When resellers undercut your minimum advertised price (MAP) or dump inventory at random price points, they don’t just steal sales — they cheapen your brand.

Pulse includes Buy Box price monitoring so:

  • You know the moment pricing moves
  • You stop unauthorized price erosion
  • You protect your brand’s long-term value

3. Create a positive, cohesive customer experience

Your customer doesn’t separate your brand from your reseller’s mistakes.

Pulse ensures:

  • Product reviews are monitored and acted on (see our tips for managing reviews)
  • Customer service messages to your account are answered within Amazon’s 24-hour window
  • You’ll know when reviews start trending the wrong direction — before it becomes a reputation problem

What Beacon’s Pulse brand protection service covers

Pulse is a hands-on brand protection system, not a dashboard.

Here’s what’s included:

Account Health Monitoring

We watch for the things that get accounts shut down — like missed verification postcards or Amazon policy flags — before you wake up to a suspended account.

Branded PPC Management

When someone types in your brand name, your product appears at the top of search results. Not your competitor.

Buy Box Price Monitoring

We track price changes and flag unauthorized movement against your MAP.

Customer Service Response

Every buyer message to your authorized account gets handled within Amazon’s SLA so your account health stays clean.

Product Review Management

We monitor review trends, identify reseller-driven quality issues, and notify you before reputation damage compounds.

Reseller Identification, Tracking & Removal (our 3-step process)

We don’t play whack-a-mole. We run a structured unauthorized seller removal workflow:

  1. We identify unauthorized sellers (knowing they exist is half the battle!).
  2. We contact them to request they become authorized or cease and desist selling your products.
  3. If they don’t, we use Amazon’s brand protection suite to protect your brand.

Note that resellers sometimes create unauthorized versions of your product on Amazon, resulting in multiple pages for the same product. (This is against Amazon’s Terms of service, but it happens all the time.) We monitor for duplicate ASINs and ensure customers are funnelled to authorized pages.

Most resellers don’t fight. They just move on to easier targets.

That’s the lock on your bike.

Who is Pulse for?

Pulse is for brands that:

  • Sell through distributors or hybrid Vendor/Seller models
  • Have active resellers on their listings
  • Are losing Buy Box control, pricing stability, or review quality
  • Need someone managing Amazon the way retail detailers manage shelves in physical stores

Amazon doesn’t manage your brand for you. But we do.
